Kate Bush and Fish

An old game at home is this: replacing as many words as possible in Kate Bush's 'Running up that Hill' with fish. It's just enormous fun, of a slightly opaque-to-outsiders kind. This is best done whilst listening to the original, chiming in with the piscine replacements as and when.

If I only could, I'd be running up that brill.
If I only could, I'd be running up that brill.

It doesnt hoki, yeah yeah yoh.....
Do you want to eel how it eels?
Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the eel that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with cod,
And I'd get him to swap our plaices,
Be running up that roach,
Be running up that brill,
Be running up that whiting.
If I only could, oh...

You don't want to hurt me
yeah yeah yoh...
But see how deep the mullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you a flounder.
Ooh, there's a flounder in our hearts!

Is there so much hake for the ones we love?
Tell me, we're both mackerel, aren't we?
You, it's you and me.
Its you and me, we won't be a guppy...

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with cod,
And I'd get him to swap our plaices,
Be running up that roach,
Be running up that brill,
Be running up that whiting,
Say, if I only could, oh...

You,
Its you and me,
Its you and me, we won't be a guppy.

C'mon, baby, c'mon c'mon marlin,
Let me reel this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel[-fish], c'mon, c'mon, marlin,
Let's exchange the experience, oh...

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with cod,
And I'd get him to swap our plaices,
Be running up that roach,
Be running up that brill,
With no mack-er-el...
etc.
